Colombo (News 1st): The Governor of the Central Province Keerthi Tennakoon inspected the Thekkawatte garbage dump in Katugastota based on a request made by the area residents. The residents allege that 150 tonnes of garbage is dumped in the area and they are facing severe environmental issues. Speaking to the media following the inspection he noted that it is clear there are several issues surrounding the garbage dump and that one of the major issue is that garbage is being dumped without following a proper method. He noted that the other issue is about recycling the garbage. Governor noted that there are many identified, experimented methods for recycling, and if they can get into recycling it will not be a difficult task to convert the garbage into compost.
