Colombo (News 1st): Operations across all universities in the country were hampered today (August 29) as well following a trade union action launched by the University Trade Union Joint Committee. Speaking to News 1st Co-Chairperson of the University Trade Union Dhammika S. Priyantha said the trade union action launched seeking a solution to the issue on salary anomalies. Operations at the Universities of Colombo, Ruhuna, Kelaniya, and Sabaragamuwa were among those seriously affected by the trade union action. However, the report suggested that non-academic staff attended the Inter-University Games currently taking place at the premises of the Ruhuna University. News 1st correspondent confirmed activities at the Rajarata University came to complete halt as a result of the strike action by the non-academic staff. Non-Academic staff at the University of Peradeniya stepped away from all their duties today. What's even more interesting is the non-academic staff had organized a casual party at the University Premises today. Yesterday (August 28), the non-academic staff at the University of Sabaragamuwa staged a protest opposite the University's main entrance.
