Colombo (News 1st): The United National Party has instructed non-cabinet ministers Sujeewa Senasinghe and Ajith Perera to submit a written explanation before September 9th, for breaching the constitution of the UNP. UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said Senasinghe and Perera were summoned today (August 27) following a complaint which citied they breached the party constitution. He said as the duo failed to appear today, a written explanation is sought from them on statements they made over the recent days. Kariyawasam said the submissions of both non-cabinet ministers would be forwarded to the disciplinary committee of the party, and thereafter relevant disciplinary action would be considered. UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim noted that it is not unusual for the General Secretary of the party to seek written explanations to examine a complaint filed against someone. Hashim noted that he does not believe both  Senasinghe and Perera would have acted in a manner which violated the rules and regulations of the party. He believes that no breach of discipline had taken place, therefore, when an explanation is provided, the issue will be solved. When questioned if they were targetted for their opinions on making Sajith Premadasa the Presidential candidate, he noted that some believe they are the ideal candidate, therefore, they would receive letters.
