COLOMBO (News 1st):- In excavations carried out in Miniyampitiya, Rambukkana, two stupas belonging to the Anuradhapura era were discovered.
Research officer of the Department of Archeology, H. M. Saman Kumara Araagama said that the stupa which has a circumference of 10-15 metres is believed to have been constructed in 2 B.C.
The stupas were discovered in the land proposed to construct the central expressway. He further said that thereby, the contractors of the highway were advised to build it using an alternative method in a manner that would not affect the ancient monument.
