NTJ member responsible for propagating extremist teachings arrested in Mawanella

COLOMBO (News 1st):- A 58-year-old active member of the banned National Thwaheed Jamath organization has been arrested from a house in Muruthawela, Mawanella early this morning (August 25). The police said that the arrest was made by the officers of the Colombo Crimes Division based on information received. The police said that he will be detained for three days for interrogation purposes. He has been identified as a relative of the main suspect connected to breaking Buddha statues in Mawanella. The CCD said that preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested suspect had conducted extremist teachings. Further, the arrested suspect is responsible for sending several individuals connected to extremist acts in Mawanella to countries like Syria and Afghanistan. Further investigations are ongoing.
