New ferry service from Fort to Union place

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A passenger ferry service from Colombo Fort to Union Place through the Beira Lake was launched today under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation funded the project which cost Rs 100mn. The Sri Lankan Navy designed the two ferries launched today and each can carry 50 passengers any given time. With the launch of this service, it is possible to travel from Colombo Fort to Union Place in less than 10 minutes though it takes more time than that of road transportation in peak hours. Passengers can use this service free of charge for a period of one month.
