Rs. 6500 million to settle debt : New Supplementary Estimate

Colombo (News1st) - Another Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 29,174 million was presented in parliament today (August 20) out of which Rs.6500 million has been allocated to settle the debt. A provision of Rs.30 million has also been requested to recruit advisors. An additional provision of Rs. 21 million has also been allocated to pay compensation to lands that were affected by the Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse. Speaking on the new supplementary estimate, JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake emphasized on the Rs.30 million allocated to recruit advisors. He stated that certain offices in parliament pay Rs 1.2 to 1.5 million for overtime. He urged the government that promised to provide water to the farming community in the country, to compensate them when the government spends millions and billions of rupees for various things. "We are also concerned by the fact that the Agriculture minister or a responsible minister has not responded", he continued.
