Colombo (News1st) - The Gammadda People's Forum which commenced yesterday (August 19), is currently taking place in the Galle and Matara districts. Villagers lamented that there was no one to listen to their problems and struggles. They thanked Gammadda for visiting their village and listening to their problems.
Locals of the Thawalama village, gathered at the Ashokaramaya, to voice their woes and daily struggles on a platform, set for those being unheard. Another villager claimed that they didn't have clean water to drink for months after the floods in 2017 for their wells were contaminated by the floods. The villagers were exposed to many difficulties due to this.
Several others claimed that there is no public toilet in the Thawalama town. "I'm not sure whether politicians even look into such matters. They face no hardships anyway" a villager claimed. These villagers are made to live unhappy lives.
Following the Gammadda Village Forum, our Gammadda team met with locals in the Thawalama town.
Meanwhile, many were enthusiastic to be a part of the "Siyawasak weni Siwwasak" photo exhibition, recollecting four years of public service by Gammadda.
An epistle was also signed by the general public today, in order to highlight the main problems of the people, which were identified after an analysis of information gathered by Gammadda and the University of Peradeniya,
Many youth are joining the Gammadda V Force teams. The next Gammadda Village Forum took place this evening in Akuressa. A large crowd had gathered to present their difficulties.
