COLOMBO (News 1st) - Parliamentarian Pavithra Wanniarachchi convened a media briefing today and spoke about the US agreements with Sri Lanka. Pavithra Wanniarachchi noted that the total immunity against local authorities which is provided in the SOFA for US personnel is detrimental to the country. She questioned what could mothers do if their daughters are to be raped by US soldiers? She added that D.S. Senanayake and Dudley Senanayake provided lands for people of the country not to be sold to foreigners, however, today with the MCC the government is attempting to sell off the lands to the US. She went on to note that although the first generation would profit from selling off their lands the consequent generation would be burdened.
