Skipper leads Sri Lanka to comfortable win in Galle

COLOMBO (News 1st):- A century skipper Dimuth Karunaratne leads Sri Lanka to victory against New Zealand in Galle today on the 5th day of the 1st test encounter between the teams. This is incidentally Sri Lanka's first test win against the kiwis in 7 years. Sri Lanka began Day 5 on 133 for no loss with openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne at the crease. Chasing 268 runs for victory, the skipper led the way with a brilliant knock of 122, his 9th test on. There were a few jitters on the last day with the Kiwi paceman bagging 4 wickets but Sri Lanka managed to coast to comfortable 6 wicket win. The test encounter began with New Zeland posting 249 runs all out in their first innings to which Sri Lanka replied with 267 runs all out in their first innings. New Zealand managed to score 285 runs all out in their second innings setting Sri Lanka a target of 268 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne was named the man of the match. This was also the first win for Sri Lanka under the ICC Test Championship.
