COLOMBO (News 1st): The General Secretary of the UPFA, Mahinda Amaraweera speaking on  News 1st News Line commented on the presidential candidate presented by the SLPP. The General Secretary categorically rejects UPFA MP Sarath Amunugama's statement, where he had said that a decision to accept Gotabaya's name as the presidential candidate was accepted at the UPFA working committee meeting. Amaraweera says that instead a decision was taken to present a candidate from the UPFA. He further said that S.B. Dissanayake could be named as the only treasurer who held the position of treasurer within the UPFA and did not contribute one bit to the party. He also said that S.B.'s decision to sit at the convention was a complete mistake because they were all national list MPs as well. When he was questioned if the name of Mahinda Amaraweera will be presented as a candidate, he responded that it had never occurred to him of such an event and that although he has the necessary qualifications that the decision will have to be made by the party.
