Colombo(News1st) - The SLPP convened a media briefing in Colombo today. (12 August) UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardana who addressed the media stated that MPs who were elected through the SLFP have already held discussions with them. He stated that they are hoping to come into some agreement between the two parties. According to the MP, they believe that an agreement will be reached through the discussions held between President Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa. He further stated that unless one or two decide to support the UNP the rest of them will stand together with the SLPP and will work towards making Gotabaya Rajapaksa president. In response to a question put forward by journalists regarding their discussions that were held with a few members of the UNP, the MP mentioned they would later reveal that information. Journalists mentioned the common inference of neither side could win without the support of the SLFP, to which he replied "Certain people believe that there is Rs 1.4 million stored in bags at the SLFP office on Darley Road. They think that we will be taking that Rs 1.4 million when we go to the Sirikota office. That's not going to happen. If we go the only thing we will be taking with us is a lamp post". In response to another question he mentioned that Maithripala Sirisena's post would be discussed between Mahinda Rajapaksa and Maithripala Sirisena, if Gotabhaya becomes the president, making Mahinda Rajapaksa the prime Minister. Another question was raised regarding what actions would be taken concerning the bond scam if their party were to establish a government to which he replied "the thief and the police who reside in the same house would never be brought to justice. Therefore when our government comes into power we will open an investigation to probe into how the bond scam happened and who is responsible"
