Compensation for those affected by bad weather

Colombo (News 1st): The process of providing compensation to those whose houses were damaged by the prevailing bad weather has commenced. Director of the National Disaster Relief Services Center Chaminda Pathiraja said that an Rs. 10,000 first instalment payment will be provided to every affected household. Accordingly, compensation is being provided to several households in the Colombo and Gampaha districts today (August 10). The government has allocated over Rs. 19 million in total as compensation. The Disaster Management Center says 1,141 houses have been damaged. 17 houses have been completely destroyed.
