Kerawalapitiya garbage dump to be shut down

Colombo (News1st) - Immediate steps have been taken to stop accepting garbage into the garbage dump that was set up in Kerawalapitiya, Wattala. According to the Ministry of Megapolis and Western development, the garbage dump was set up to counter the sudden rise of garbage in Colombo. The ministry added that the measure was set up as a temporary fix and was only supposed to function for a period of one year. It adds that they have taken a decision to stop accepting garbage into the dump as it has exceeded its capacity due to being in operation for over two years. The ministry also noted that there have been several protests staged against the garbage dump.
