Colombo (News 1st): The Auditor General’s Department said the Financial Audit regarding Public Institutions had reached 90% completion. Auditor General W.P.C.Wickremeratne said the performance evaluation of public institutions is currently underway and the reports are to be released before the end of October 2019.
The audits performed so far revealed a large number of shortcomings on the part of many public institutions. The Auditor-General said a forensic audit will be carried out on the shortcomings and fraud and corruption uncovered from the audits at public institutions.
Steps have been taken to train Sri Lankan auditors in performing a forensic audit and under its first phase 07 personnel were trained in the UK and another 07 will be sent overseas shortly.
