Human-elephant conflict claims life of 8 year old girl

Colombo (News 1st): A wild elephant attack in Mahiyangana claimed the life of an 8-year-old child. The fatal accident was reported when the child died after a wall which was pushed over by the elephant, collapsed onto the girl. J.M. Shalika is a resident of Damunugasmandiya, Mahiyangana. She went to her uncle's house to keep her cousin sister company last night. Shalika was sleeping peacefully with her cousin sister in their grandmother's room. Moments later, everything changed as a wild elephant attacked the house and a wall of the house collapsed onto little Shalika, who was fast asleep. She sustained serious injuries following the ordeal and was admitted to the Mahiyangana hospital but she succumbed to her injuries upon admission. Shalika was the elder sibling in a family of two children and was a grade three student of the Mapakadawewa Bandaranayake College.
