COLOMBO (News 1st): The Government Analyst Department states that they will commence investigations into the waste at the Katunayake Free Trade Zone and the waste containers docked at the port after analyzing whether they contain radioactive materials and biohazard materials.
A spokesperson at the Department states that written information has been presented to the courts on the matter. He says that the court was already notified that the report on whether the waste contains toxic materials/metal or blood mixed into it will be submitted following investigations.
Recently, an injunction order was issued by the Court of Appeal restricting the waste in both locations to be moved to any other external location within the country. The judge bench consisting of the Chairman of the Court of Appeal Judges Yasantha Kodagoda and Arjuna Obeysekara also restricted the re-exportation of the waste without prior permission from the court.
