Fishermen requested to avoid Bay of Bengal

Colombo (News 1st): The Fisheries Department has advised the fishermen who are engaged in fishing activities in the Bay of Bengal to leave the area and proceed to safer seas. Director of the Patrol Operations Division in the area Pathmapriya Tissera said the notification was issued due to inclement weather conditions and strong winds. According to the Meteorological Department, the sea area extending from Puttalam to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanturai and the sea area extending from Hambantota to Potuvil can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 55-65 kmph, at times.
