COLOMBO (News 1st) - At a media briefing this morning His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith Archbishop of Colombo said that the commissions appointed to investigate into 04/21 attacks failed to deliver. His Eminence went on to note that the members of the commission were needed to be selected following the consultation of all the key political parties in Sri Lanka. The Cardinal clarified that he did not mean that the elections are unimportant but to unravel the truth behind the attacks enthusiastically as people are concerned about the truth now more than ever. His Eminence stated that he will not meet any presidential candidate contesting from the ruling party, the opposition or from any other party if these requests are not granted. He went on to note that he does not abide by any political party despite what the media states. Cardinal Ranjith added that he does not represent any political party and he only stands strong with the people of Sri Lanka. His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith noted that he does not ask the government to resign but if they are incapable of carrying out their duties, they should. His Eminence added that he did not direct his criticism specifically towards the President and he stated that all the leaders of the country should be strong and decisive in their conduct. He humorously swept aside comments on a certain minister having complained about him to the Pope.
