Mattegoda van hijack : Suspect who escaped arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The details of the suspects who hijacked a van in Mattegoda area have come to light. The suspect who was shot by army personnel, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the National Hospital. The deceased suspect is Podagodage Priyantha, a 47-year-old resident of Kirindigala, Balangoda. The other suspect who fled the scene was later arrested in the Pinwatte area. It was reported that he had also sustained injuries during the incident. According to the Police, the 37-year-old suspect named Kasun Nishantha, a resident of Udugampola is currently receiving treatment at the Panadura Hospital under police protection. The suspects had hijacked a van from the Kirigampanuwa area in Mattegoda last night after threatening the driver of the van using a locally manufactured firearm.
