There is no point in me doing politics without Sajith: Harin Fernando

COLOMBO (News 1st): Speaking about the Presidential candidacy, the State Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Ashok Abeysinghe said that during the group meeting that a few of the MPs of the party had proposed Sajith Premadasa's name as the candidate. He further said that although the leader of their party was put forward twice that he lost both times while also saying that no they have been landed with the opportunity to win. He added that the decision of the minority parties is also to put forward Sajith as the presidential candidate. However, Minister John Amaratunga states that their alliance is due to convene a meeting on the 5th and that a decision will only be taken once they meet. He added that till then they have no one. When questioned if the name of Sajith Premadasa is also included in the proposed list, the Minister said that there are about five to six names including the Prime Minister, Karu Jayasuriya, Sajith Premadasa, Champika Ranawaka and Navin Dissanayake. The Minister of Sports, Harin Fernando speaking on the matter said that regardless of the various comments expressed about Sajith Premadasa that his view is simply that his journey of politics will be futile without his leadership. He further said that both the country and they face several issues due to the actions of certain leaders and their failure to implement certain decisions. The Minister also stressed on the fact that this country does not need appointments where the elder brother acts as the President and the younger sibling acts as the Prime Minister of the country. He added that even during the parliamentary group meeting that they witnessed how everyone was speaking about him. UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma said that the Joint Opposition signed an MOU with 11 other political parties and that three of the 11 previously had supported the party under the swan symbol in January. Also speaking on the upcoming elections UNP MP S.M. Marikkar said that one individual who signed yesterday (July 26) is a former governor and an MP whose son is the UNP organizer in Habaraduwa. He further said that therefore he will not even receive the support of his family. The MP challenges the opposition alliance to win at least one seat. He added that they could win even if they contest as a single party since they have the peoples mandate.
