Colombo(News1st)- A student was admitted to hospital after sustaining severe injuries due to an accident that took place in Warakapola, due to reckless driving.  An advanced level student returning from tuition, sustained severe injuries in an accident while crossing the road, at the Mangedara junction, Warakapola. On the 20th of this month, Fathima Minasa was knocked down by a bus at around 4.30 pm. CCTV footage clearly reveals how two buses were racing on the main road, disregarding the pedestrians and motorists. This crossing which is located at a turn paves the way for more accidents to take place rather than creating a secure platform for pedestrians. Following the accident, the bus driver who remained on the bus for a short period of time fled the scene shortly. The student, who now remains with thousand of shattered dreams, has destroyed the expectations of many. Fatima, an Art student of Kegalle Balika Vidyalaya, is currently receiving treatment, at the Kegalle general hospital. Fatima, the youngest of three children, is now fighting between life and death. After a long flight, the pilots are given a mandatory period to rest. However, the situation of bus drivers is completely different. There are countless instances where bus drivers are under the influence of alcohol and even drugs. These bus drivers do not adhere to road rules. How many more lives will they take? This should be stopped immediately. Shouldn't the permits of these buses be cancelled? Shouldn't the license of careless drivers be cancelled? If a person is knocked down and killed on the pedestrian crossing by a speeding bus driver, would it not amount to manslaughter? Now is the time to put a stop to this.
