Ali Roshan and 7 others remanded until the verdict is delivered

Colombo (News 1st): Special High Court today (July 25) ordered to remand Samarappulige Niraj Roshan, alias Ali Roshan and 7 other defendants pertaining to the case which has been filed over the illegal possession of five elephants and other charges until a verdict on the case is delivered. The order was handed down after considering a request made by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General. The Deputy Solicitor General pointed out that the eight accused have been charged with 36 counts of possessing public property, including elephants and if bail is granted, the defendants could attempt to avoid courts thus causing a hindrance to the hearing of the case. The bench comprising Justices Vikum Kaluarachchi, Dhammika Ganepola and Aditya Patabendige who considered the request, subsequently issued the order. The bench also ordered for the case to be called up again on the 2nd of August. In accordance with the summons issued by courts, the other defendants of the case are Amarappulihewage Nishan Dhammika, Kadupitiyage Chandana Kumara, Rasika Chanuka Gamlath, Paliapitiya Gamage Jayalath, Upali Padmasiri, Damitha Chathuranga, and Priyanka Sanjeewani.
