Rs. 466mn spent on furnishing Agriculture Ministry building

Colombo (News 1st): Details regarding the agreement of rent on the building that houses the Ministry of Agriculture was obtained and was revealed today (July 23), at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe fraud and corruption from 2015. The details were disclosed by Attorney at Law Kanishka Gunawardena, who provided assistance to draft the agreement of rent. The agreement specifies that a rent of Rs. 21 million per month will be paid for the first two years, while it will be increased to Rs. 23 million per month from year 3 onwards. It was further mentioned at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that the respective building had been acquired on rent based on a cabinet paper submitted by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. It was also revealed, following the acquisition of the building on rent basis, that the Ministry of Agriculture had spent Rs. 466 million to furnish the building.
