Colombo (News1st) - The Supreme Court today decided to take up a number fo appeal petitions filed by former Secretary of Defense, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, on the 9th of September. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has filed these petitions against several orders issued by the permanent High Court trial at bar. The petitions were taken up today, before a bench consisting of Justices Sisira de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena, L.B. Dehideniya, Vijith Malalgoda, and Priyantha Fernando. The Attorney General has filed a case before the permanent High Court trial at bar, against Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and seven others over several charges including the misappropriation of government funds worth 33.9 million rupees to build the D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum in Medamulana. Attorneys-at-law representing Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's objected to the three-member bench at the High Court, stating that the court had no jurisdiction to hear the case. The attorneys were also against the order of the charge sheet filed against Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Accordingly, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had filed a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of the objections by the High Court.
