Three teams of from News 1st together with academics of the University of Peradeniya are in 3 districts and will meet the people and inquire into their problems. Marking its presence in all 25 districts, the Gammadda team commenced its journey today, visiting the local communities in the Kalutara, Matale and Jaffna districts. The first team visited the Bulathsinhala Palinda, Nuwara village, following religious observances at the Horana Wewala Isipathanarama Vihara. The locals in this area face several difficulties, due to the lack of transport facilities and dilapidated roads. The teams then visited the Ran Siri Gama village. The Ran Siri Gama village is one of the many villages that lack sanitary facilities. After obtaining blessings from the Weerakkuli Ammana Kovil, another Gammadda team commenced their door-to-door journey in Jaffna today. Locals in the Marada Puram village in Jaffna are facing severe difficulties due to the lack of drinking water facilities. There are nearly 200 families residing in this village. Locals are compelled to travel nearly 20 miles to search for water. Locals who engage in fishing for a living are now suffering due to the prevailing dry weather in the area. Locals in the Karainagar village are also suffering due to the lack of drinking water facilities. Our Gammadda teams who visited the Manal Kadu and Thalei di villages identified the lack of drinking water facilities and the road system as the main two issues faced by locals. The team in Dambulla obtained blessings from the Sri Sambodhi Viharaya and commenced their journey to the villages in the area. Tomorrow(July 19) the Gammadda teams will continue their journey in these three districts and speak to the people and identify their issues.
