Colombo (News 1st): Postal Service employees commenced a 48-hour strike action with effect from 4 pm today (July 16). Convener of the Joint Postal Trade Union Alliance Chinthaka Bandara said that this strike is carried out due to disparities in recruitment, promotions, and salary structure. He noted that in September last year (2018) a memorandum was submitted to the cabinet, however, it did not receive any approval. He noted that they launched a 48-hour strike action in the Colombo postal area because the relevant authorities failed to address this issue. He added that if the relevant authorities do not look into the issue they will go into an island-wide strike. Meanwhile, the Subject Minister Abdul Raheem convened a media briefing in this regard.
"We appointed a committee in this regard, and the recommendations of this committee has already been submitted to the finance minister. This is where the delay has taken place. The cabinet will discuss this matter on Friday. Until then, I request all postal employees to report to work."
