Couple arrested for smuggling cigarettes worth Rs 3.2 mn

COLOMBO (News 1st): A married couple who smuggled a stock of cigarettes into the country have been arrested by the BIA Customs. The customs had seized a haul of 64,600 cigarettes value at Rs 3.2 million from their possession. The arrested couple both aged 29 has been identified as residents of Giriulla, Kurunegala. The Customs noted that the arrested suspects were accompanied by their children aged 5 and 7 years. The haul of cigarettes was confiscated and the suspects were ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 75,000.
