COLOMBO (News 1st): Speaking at an event held in Gampola today (July 12) UPFA MP Mahindanda Aluthgamage commented on the no-confidence motion that was defeated recently. MP Aluthgamage said that although the opposition had already secured the votes needed to defeat the government that at the last moment, the Prime Minister had held discussions with the MPs of the TNA and granted them with all they had wanted in the North and the East in writing. He further said that in addition the Prime Minister had also discussed with MP Thondaman regarding the estate sector and acceded to all of their demands as well. MP Aluthgamage said that this government which was already in power for the past four and a half years and did nothing for the people of both the North and East showed how they could do any low-class action just to stay in power even at the brink of their collapse. He added that although the JVP presented the no-confidence motion that they had not taken measures to discuss with other parties regarding the motion just like the opposition leader held discussions with all other opposition parties on the matter. MP Mahindanda Aluthgamage states that the JVP presented this no-confidence motion only with the intent of strengthening the government.
