School shooting: Akmeemana Police advised to seek AG advice on soldier arrest

Colombo (News 1st): The Galle Additional Magistrate has advised the Akmeemana Police to immediately seek the advice of the Attorney General with regard to the soldier arrested over a shooting incident in Akmeemana. Police said the soldier was arrested and produced before the Galle Magistrate's Court yesterday (July 5) and subsequently handed over to the Army's 581 Brigade Command Headquarters in Boosa. The police said the soldier will remain in custody, under emergency regulations, until the Attorney General's advice is received. Investigations are underway under the supervision of an ASP. One person was shot dead by the soldier posted at the Upanandana Primary school in Maanawila Akmeemana at around 12.05 pm on Thursday.
