COLOMBO (News 1st): The Navy apprehended 16 persons for fishing in the sea area of Nayaru, Trincomalee without valid fishing permits.
A group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a routine patrol, apprehended these 16 suspects for fishing without valid permits. The apprehended persons aged 20 to 64 years are residents of Kuchchaweli and Erakkandi areas in Trincomalee. Seven dinghies, 07 outboard motors and 13 fishing nets used for fishing were also taken into naval custody.
The apprehended persons, dinghies, outboard motors, fishing nets and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Mullaitivu for onward investigation.
