COLOMBO (News 1st) – Police stated that they will seek advice from the attorney general on how to move forward with their investigations regarding the strike launched by the Railway Department trade unions although the railway service was declared an essential service.

Police stated that preliminary investigations are underway and they have already got statements from four individuals including the General Manager of Railways, Dilantha Fernando.

Police added that they are to record statements from the leaders of the trade unions in their investigations.

Police went on to note that preparations are being made to take firm action against employees who engage in strikes violating emergency regulations.

The investigations commenced based on a complaint filed by the General Manager of Railways, Dilantha Fernando.

A few weeks ago the railway unions stated that they would engage in strikes on every Thursday until their demands were met and they launched their strike on Thursday, June 20th defying the essential service order.
