Proud to be called a "Niganta" - Rathana Thero

COLOMBO (News 1st) -  Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero arrived at the FCID today (July 01) to provide a statement regarding the fundamentalist Batticaloa university. Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero noted that he was able to provide concrete evidence to shut down the construction of the Batticaloa university which ex-governor M. Hizbullah is involved. The Thero believes that a case will be filed against him in the next week. Meanwhile, Venerable Rathana Thero expressed his views in Welimada last evening regarding the criticism by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe recently. Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero noted that he was called a "Niganta" and he would welcome it with open arms as Niganta culture was invaluable in the fight against British colonialization in India. The Thero went on to note that he was proud to be called a Niganta as Jina Mahaweera the leader of Niganta subculture was a leader who practiced hunger strikes for the well being of the entire community. The Thero finally noted that Jina Mahaweera was not a thief and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe should follow his principles.
