COLOMBO (News 1st): A newly refurbished road in the Hewaheta electoral district in Kandy was vested with the public yesterday (June 29). The carpeted road from Galaha to Bel-Uda along Uda-Deltota was declared open by Minister Lakshman Kiriella. Speaking at the occasion, the Chief incumbent of the Galaha Udadeltota Jinendraramaya, Ven. Udadeltota Attadassi Thero stated that all the Theros speak of the fact that the Kandy district has not had a state leader since D. B. Wijeytunga and said that it is high time that a leader emerges comes from Kandy. The Thero continued to say that since Kiriella is the person heading the development in the Kandy district that he will be able to do more for the district if he ascends to the position of head of state. To this statement, the Minister responded that they would put forward a candidate who can definitely win the elections. The Minister said that they do not have to be afraid because they are not ready to hand over the government and further said that the central working committee together with the parliamentary MPs would decide on the candidate. He added that although they would not present a common candidate that the candidate from the UNP would stand as the common candidate.
