Salary and other allowance increments effect from tomorrow

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Proposed salary increments and allowances in 2019-budget are to come into effect from tomorrow (July 01). The press release from the Ministry of Finance noted that the 1.1mn state employees will benefit from a Rs 2500 interim allowance. In addition, the increment of security division allowances, resolution of pension discrepancies and increment of allowances for individuals with special needs will also be in effect from tomorrow (July 01). The government has allocated Rs 40,000mn for these increments. The house rental allowance granted to security personnel has been doubled while the commando allowance of Rs 1000 is increased to Rs. 5000. The government has allocated Rs 1175mn for these increments. According to the press release the ministry has allocated Rs 12,000mn to increase the pension of the 500,000 state employees who retired prior to December 31st, 2015 in a range from Rs 2800-Rs 20,000. It also stated that Rs 2000 allowance for individuals with special needs will be increased up to Rs 5000 while 5000 patients with chronic kidney diseases will be granted Rs 5000 in addition to the 21,000 patients who are already receiving Rs 5000. The government has allocated Rs 12,000mn to settle the salary anomalies of the pension beneficiaries.
