COLOMBO (News 1st): The motion of No-confidence against the government is scheduled to be taken up for debate on the 10th of next month.
Speaking in this regard JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha stated that they are attempting to create a public opinion and make the members of the parliament raise their hands in favour of this motion when it is taken up. Speaking on the consequences of winning this NMC, he said that the prevailing government is over after which the people must vote a new government.
He further said that they cannot even dare to build back a new government after losing a no-confidence motion, which is when everyone has to take their step in arriving at a consensus of dissolving the parliament with a 2/3 majority and going in for a general election.
Lalkantha states that they want a general election before the Presidential election and further explained that this is only possible through winning the NMC. He said that if this does not go as planned that the coming election will be the Presidential election and that they will be ready for that as well.
K.D.Lalkantha also said that on July 14th that they are prepared to present a new broad national movement and that it is through that, that they will put forward their candidate. Expressing confidence over their upcoming Presidential candidate he said that he/she will undoubtedly win the hearts of the people due to the ongoing situation of the country.
Responding to journalists questions after the meeting, K.D.Lalkantha said that the politburo will be put forward and that if by any chance he is chosen that he will have to do it and assured that he will definitely do it if chosen.
