COLOMBO (News 1st): The newly erected wall around the Bodhiya of the Sri Vijaya Sundararamaya in Horapavita, Kamburupitiya was unveiled today (June 28) by the Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. Responding to a question imposed by a journalist on the President's decision to implement the death penalty, Rajapaksa said that he has always publicly expressed his dislike for the decision. He further said that you do not have to be a President to give the executioner his job and that the courts can take care of that. He added that although he was also asked to sign the proposal that he had refrained from doing so because he thinks that the timing is wrong. Will this become a sign that he will be a candidate at the next presidential election. The Opposition Leader replied that if one can become a President by hanging people that they too have a lot of people to hang and added that he does not think that the President is doing so with such an objective. Commenting on the recent case filed against Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Opposition Leader only said that it is the action of the diaspora. Rajapaksa also added that this case will have no effect in his run for the presidency if he decides to contest.
