COLOMBO (News 1st) – The government has turned its attention on restricting the importation of supplementary crops which are locally produced.
The Ministry of Agriculture stated that preliminary discussions are underway into the matter.The Department of Agriculture intends to acquire data on the requirement of imported supplementary crops and the quantity produced locally.
Based on the information that is gathered the Ministry will present a report to the Cost of Living Committee in order to reach a final decision. The Agriculture Ministry notes that measures will be taken to protect local farmers and provide relief to the consumers.
