Dr Shaafi files FR petition to suspend detention

COLOMBO (News 1st): Dr Seigu Siyabdeen Mohamed Shaafi of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital who is currently under the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department has filed an FR petition at the Supreme Court. The FR petition was filed requesting an order to suspend his detention and interrogation. The Acting IGP, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Defence, Director of the CID, OIC of the Kurunegala Police and OIC of the Crimes Division of the Kurunegala police has been named as the respondents of this case. Dr Shafi who was arrested to investigate the questionable source of his large wealth was later accused of conducting illegal sterilization procedures through complaints lodged by over 1000 women. Currently, the CID has undertaken a lengthy investigation into the matter.
