Strong winds to prevail over the coming days

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology states that the prevailing windy condition over the island and showery condition in the south-western part is likely to continue during the next few days. Further, the department forecasts the possibility for the occurrence of strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western and North-central provinces and in the Trincomalee and Monaragala districts and fairly strong gusty winds up to 40-50 kmph in the other regions. Showers or thundershowers are also predicted to occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts while several spells of showers are due to occur in the North-western province and in Hambantota district. Fairly heavy falls about 75mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces. Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm can be expected at some places in Western province and in the Galle and Matara districts. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
