48-hour train strike from midnight tonight

Colombo (News 1st): Several Trade Unions of the Railway Department have taken a decision to initiate a 48-hour strike from midnight tonight (Jun 20). The decision has been taken as the discussions with the Finance Minister regarding the failure to implement the cabinet paper to remove existing salary anomalies of railway employees have proven futile. Secretary of the Locomotive Operating Engineers Union, Indika Dodangoda noted the train drivers, train guards, train controllers, station masters and railway supervisors will engage in the strike.
