Man accused of rape sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Southern Province High Court of Galle ordered 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to an individual accused of sexual assault. The order was issued by Galle High Court judge Wasantha Jinadasa. The accused who was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 5000 and a sum of Rs. 450,000 to the victim. The court further said that if the accused individual failed to pay the said amounts that he will be imprisoned for another year. The sexual assault was reportedly committed on December 7th 2009 in the Hikkaduwa Police Division.
