MP Jayampathi Wickremeratne explains the complications of the 19th amendment

Colombo (News 1st): Dr Jayampathi Wickremaratne was a pioneer in drafting the 19th amendment to the constitution. Commenting about the 19th amendment to the constitution at a media briefing today (June 7) he said if the initial draft of the 19th amendment to the constitution was passed in parliament, this situation wouldn't have arisen. He added that Sri Lanka wouldn't have two authorities fighting over state expenditure heads. He noted that the amendment was sabotaged and they had to make it lighter to obtain a 2/3rds majority. He said the best example is the composition of the constitutional council. News 1st highlighted the issue in the 19th amendment to the constitution at the time it was a draft bill. No one has been able to untangle the mess in governing the state although we took the matter pertaining to the suppression of the media to courts. Why are those who were involved in compiling the amendment to the constitution, realizing the issues in it now? Is it because they were distracted at the time the amendment was made?
