Over 17,000 SIMs used for illegal IDD phone racket seized

Colombo (News 1st): Police said 3 people, including a Chinese national, have been arrested for operating an illegal IDD phone racket in Ethukala, Negombo. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that they were arrested during a raid carried out by the Police Special Task Force at a house in Sylvester Road based on a tip-off. The STF have seized 402 mobile phones, 17,400 SIM cards and 60 routers. The arrested Sri Lanka nationals are residents of Negombo and Kalpitiya. Initial investigations have revealed that the arrested Chinese national was residing in Sri Lanka without a valid visa. Officials of the Sri Lanka Telecom and the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission have been called by the CID for further investigations.
