Malwatte Mahanayake celebrates 75th birthday

Colombo (News 1st): Today (May 30) marks the 75th birthday of the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero, Mahanayaka of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siyam Nikaya. Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero was born on May 30, 1944. The Thero hails from Sri Siddhartha Buddharakkitha Buddhist clan. The Thero completed his higher education successfully and received his higher ordination at the age of 20 years on June 10, 1964, under the guidance of then Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatte chapter of Siyam Nikaya at the Seemamalakaya of Malwatte Maha Viharaya. The Thero was appointed to the prestigious position of Anunayake Thero (Deputy Chief Prelate) of the Malwatte chapter on May 13, 1992, After serving as the Anunayaka of Malwatte chapter for 12 years, the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera was elevated to the position of Mahanayake Thero (Chief Prelate) of the Malwatte Chapter of Siyam Nikaya on June 20th, 2004. Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero has received the respect and appreciation of all Maha Sangha and is carrying out a yeoman service to our motherland. Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama who arrived at the Malwatte Viharaya extended his wishes to the Most Venerable Thero.
