500 arrested over excise violations during Vesak

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Excise stated several operations across the country during the Vesak season led to the arrest of 500 individuals. The department seized liquor, spirits and equipment used to filter liquor which is valued at nearly Rs 4mn. Meanwhile, a hotel in Pellandeniya, Kurunegala which has sold alcohol on Vesak Poya day was sealed. The department went on to say that the operations are still in effect.
