132 excise violators arrested in island wide raids

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Excise states that 132 suspects were arrested for the possession of illegal drugs in a special raid conducted islandwide. Deputy Commissioner General of the department, Kapila Kumarasinghe said that 46 heroin raids, 82 raids to seize ganja, three raids to detect illegal spirits and a raid to detect the people evading tax and possessing cigarettes were conducted till the 15th of this month. Three of the suspects were remanded after they were presented before courts. The deputy commissioner general further added that the rest of the suspects were released after being fined a sum of Rs. 475,000.
