COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department for Registration of Persons states that the number of people seeking the one-day service for issuing National Identity Cards (NIC) has increased by two-fold.
Commissioner General of the Department Viyani Gunathilake said that the increase could be directly attributed to the prevailing situation in the country. Thereby, approximately 2500 people walk into the department on a daily basis to obtain NIC’s. This figure is twice the 1200 people reported previously.
The Director-General added that due to the increase in demand that additional employees have been deployed to facilitate the one day service.
