COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Department of Motor Traffic declared that it has temporarily suspended the provision of registration of pre-owned vehicles on affidavits.

According to the Commissioner General of the Department, Jagath Chandrasiri, when providing a vehicle to another party under one-day service, both the buyer and the seller must appear at the department.

In addition, the Department of Motor Traffic has temporarily suspended the provision of driving licenses under one-day service. The Commissioner added that when a driving license is lost or misplaced and a police complaint is lodged, the complaint would be verified once again prior to the re-issuance of a new driving license.

The Commissioner went on to note that previously the Department of Motor Traffic would issue a new driver’s license merely based on a complaint made to the police

He explained the following decisions were taken as a safety protocol due to the national security crisis in the country.
