Colombo (News 1st): Rehaan D Wijeratne Jayawickreme, the Chairman of the Weligama Urban Council in a letter to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says he is a third generation United National Party politician and has been told many times not to comment on party matters in public. The letter goes on to claim that Rehaan D Wijeratne Jayawickreme has been told that if he supports Sajith Premadasa publicly, he too will be axed from the party and lose his position. The Chairman of the Weligama Urban Council believes all this was said to ensure he too will be scared to open his mouth. To his critics, Rehaan Jayawickreme says his veins do not allow him to be a “slave to politics" and will not bow down to certain levels of the party machinery that will most likely commence disciplinary action against him. He says the party suffered set back after set back and all the while people echo on when the party will give Sajith his due place. Rehaan Jayawickreme says he in no way is betraying the current leader the Prime Minister even though it may be coerced into thinking he is undermining the party leader. To the Prime Minister he says "Even though you may have the chance to consolidate power within the party, the United National Party voters will reject you if you continue to be in the position you are in now." He goes on to note the people now want Sajith Premadasa, the man who in his opinion will win the elections if the Prime Minister gives him the party leadership along with the official candidature for the 2020 election.
